On June 2, 2014, the Governor of the State of Florida signed into law an increase in the Personal Needs Allowance from $35 to $105 for nursing home residents on Medicaid. This goes into effect July 1, 2014.
A Personal Needs Allowance is the amount of income each month a nursing home resident on Medicaid is allowed to keep for his/her own use.
This money is for items and services not provided by the nursing home or paid for by Medicaid. Examples include: personal grooming products or services; books; magazines; telephone; cigarettes; stationary; stamps; clothing; and, shoes.
