I think longterm care insurance is an important part of the estate planning process. If you become sick and you need to go into a nursing home, it’s relatively straightforward and easy to qualify you for Medicaid. If you need care at home, it’s a little more difficult, and that’s where most people want to stay. If you want to go to assisted living, it’s really almost impossible to get Medicaid for that. You will wait, potentially, up to 18 months. The only way to fill that hole is either you’re going to pay for it out of your own pocket or you’re going to have a longterm healthcare policy.
